Privacy

The short version: this site sets no cookies, shows no ads and does not follow you around the web. It counts visits anonymously so I can see which pages are useful.

Who is responsible

Abdu Sallouh, Dresden, Germany. You can reach me at abdusalouh@gmail.com about anything on this page.

Visit statistics

I use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service run by Umami Software, Inc. in the United States, with the data stored in the EU. When you open a page, it records:

  • which page you opened and the site that linked you here, if any
  • your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language
  • your country, worked out from your IP address; the IP address itself is not stored
  • clicks on a few links, such as opening my CV, saving my contact or following a paper link
  • whether you arrived by scanning one of my QR codes

Umami uses no cookies and does not build a profile of you. Visits are grouped under an anonymous, one-way hashed identifier that cannot be turned back into your IP address. I only ever see totals, like how many people opened the CV this week.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, the statistics script is not loaded at all. The statistics are stored in the EU; because Umami is a US company, any access from the United States relies on the safeguards in Umami's data processing terms.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. in the United States. Like any web host, Netlify processes technical data when you load a page, including your IP address, the time, the page requested and your browser, to deliver the site and keep it secure. The legal basis is the same legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and transfers to the United States rely on the safeguards in Netlify's data processing agreement.

What is stored on your device

If you switch to dark mode or high contrast, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage so the next page looks the same. It stays on your device and is never sent to me or anyone else.

If you email me

I use your email and whatever you write only to reply to you, and I do not share it.

Your rights

You can ask me for access to, correction or deletion of personal data about you, ask me to restrict its use, object to it (Art. 21 GDPR), or ask for a copy. Because the statistics are anonymous, I usually cannot pick out an individual visit. You can also complain to a data protection authority; mine is the Sächsische Datenschutz- und Transparenzbeauftragte in Dresden.
